At a time when biomass is the subject of tensions over resources, prices and acceptability, heating networks are having to consider new energy sources in order to become greener and expand. While there are still obstacles in the way, some are taking the plunge and diversifying their supply towards other sources of heat (geothermal, solar thermal or recovery of waste heat)… not without difficulty, when it comes to bringing together sources and needs. Here are some examples of partnerships with manufacturers and the key role played by local authorities in developing these heat sources.
